The 17th Busan International Film Festival has announced ten films for the New Currents selections, including 2 films from Taiwan.
Busan International Film Festival has been the grand platform for promising young Asian directors and potential world cinema leaders. The BIFF New Currents introduces those cineastes’ works through World or International Premieres.
The New Currents has already discovered JIA Zhangke (China/1998), PARK Chan Ok (South Korea/2002), LEE Yoon Ki (South Korea/2004), ZHANG Lu (China/2005), and Aditya ASSARAT (Thailand/2007) who are all active and vital filmmakers in and beyond Asia. The New Currents has been an aspirant place for all new Asian directors. From East to West to South Asia, 10 films from 8 countries display various themes, experimental touches and amazing aesthetics to charm audiences.
Young Taiwanese directors are rising as attention-grabbing rookies: CHANG Jung Chi of “Touch of the Light” and HSU Chao-Jen of “Together” touch audience’s’ hearts. Touch of the Light is about the growing intimacy between a blind pianist and a little girl who wants to be a dancer. Together tells a story of common human sentiment with an undying loneliness lost among a crowd.

Teenaged Xiao Yang is a simple boy, deeply caring about those around him. He loves his family and friends unconditionally, but other than to Xiao Ma, he is invisible. One rainy night, he realizes nothing will change and starts looking for another life for himself.
Director HSU Chao-Jen
Since 1989, he has build up his career in film and TV industry as a grip technician, assistant producer and assistant director. In 2000, he started to make and write films. The films that he worked in have been invited to many different film festivals and been awarded.
His first feature TV-film In the Air (2003) has been awarded the Best Directing for TV Movie at the Golden Bell Awards of Taiwan. Since then, he has made many great TV series and nominated in Golden Bell Awards several times. Together is his first feature film.

Director CHANG Jung-chi

Born blind, piano player Yuhsiang has a fine sense of touch and a vivid imagination. Chieh dreams of being a dancer, but is intimidated by what she considers reality. Until she’s inspired by the fearless Yuhsiang in a chance meeting that brightens both their futures.
Director CHANG Jung-chi
Born in Taipei in 1980, Chang Jung-Chi received a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Applied Media Arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts. In 2006, Chang co-directed My Football Summer. It won Best Documentary at the Golden Horse Award and was invited to numerous international film festivals including Busan International Film Festival. His graduation film, The End of the Tunnel, won the Best Short Film at Taipei Film Festival. Touch of the Light is his first feature film.
The 17th Busan International Film Festival will be held from Thursday, October 4, 2012 to Saturday, October 13, 2012.
